A private lie detector test in Manchester costs £365 for the standard examination — one person, one topic, 1.5–2.5 hours from the interview through to the conclusion, at 95–98% accuracy. The session happens either at Peter House, Oxford Street, Manchester M1 5AN, or at a place of your choosing: a house in Didsbury, a unit in Trafford Park, a meeting room in Stockport. You are given the preliminary outcome face to face before you leave, and the signed report arrives within 3–5 business days with nothing more to pay. The online format is £150. All SPU examiners are entered in the official Register of Polygraph Examiners of Ukraine, and the first conversation costs you nothing.

The Kind of Case This City Produces

A large share of what comes to us here starts behind a counter or in a stockroom. Bars, restaurants, salons, independent shops and small warehouses employ a great many people in this city, often on shifts, often with keys handed round and stock counted by hand. When money or product starts going missing in that environment there is rarely an audit trail worth following — there is a rota, a shortlist of names and an owner who cannot afford to lose half a team on a hunch.

The student population creates the second pattern. Tens of thousands of people share houses with near-strangers for a year at a time, and a missing laptop or a raided food cupboard turns into something nobody knows how to raise. Landlords stay out of it, the tenancy has months left to run, and the house divides into camps by the second week.

The third is the family one, and it is the oldest. Households here often have several generations within a few miles of each other, which makes for close support and for quarrels that never quite finish. Money lent between relatives, a will that surprised somebody, an accusation made at a christening — these do not go to court and they do not go away either.

How the Session Is Structured
1
Working out the questions

Before anything else, you and the examiner fix the precise wording of what will be asked. Nothing appears in the test that you have not already read and agreed to. It is the longest stage and it determines most of the result.

2
Consent on paper

Participation is a decision and it gets recorded as one. Whoever sits the test can call a stop at any moment, and that is spelled out before any equipment is attached.

3
Taking the readings

Breathing, cardiovascular response and skin conductance are recorded as the agreed questions are put in several standardised sequences. Nothing is painful and nothing goes under the skin.

4
Hearing the outcome

The examiner reads the charts there and then and tells you the preliminary finding in person. The signed report follows inside 3–5 business days.

Lie Detector Test Prices in Manchester

One figure for a standard examination instead of an hourly charge, so nothing about the cost is discovered afterwards. The conversation beforehand is free, and the written report is inside the price rather than added at the end. The rate here is the national one — no city premium, and no charge for the examiner's journey anywhere in the county.

FormatWhat it coversPrice, GBP
Standard lie detector examinationOne person on one topic; 1.5–2.5 hours covering interview and testing; signed report included£365
Online-format examinationWhere those involved are in different countries and no single room could hold them£150
Testing in a foreign languageCharged when the session must be run outside the examiner's working languages+£70
Multi-topic or corporate examinationSeveral people, a company matter, or a date that needs the diary clearedQuoted individually

The standard rate covers most private work, including settling a family conflict, a check before a marriage, an examination arranged through a solicitor and a visit by the examiner to your address. An internal company investigation carries its own quote, because the work there depends on how many people sit down and how many sittings it takes.

Read the table as a starting position. What you pay is settled in the consultation, once we know the number of questions and the number of people involved.

Who Runs the Test in Manchester

Certified SPU polygraph examiner preparing equipment for a test in Manchester

Lie detector tests here are carried out by SPU-certified examiners and by local partner examiners bound to the same union protocols and the same consent procedure. We keep names off the site because a good deal of this work is confidential by nature and clients prefer it that way. Before the appointment you will be told exactly who is coming.

Business and investigative work
Shortfalls, stock losses, screening, internal incidents

Handles the cases where a business needs one fact established rather than a general impression — what happened to a delivery, where a shortfall started, whether a candidate's account of a dismissal holds. Works with the owner to cut a broad suspicion down to something a test can actually answer, which is the step most such requests skip.

Family and private matters
Relationships, household incidents, accusations, young people

Handles the appointments people spend months deciding whether to make. Gives the pre-test interview more time than the recording takes, since in a private case the hard part is turning years of history into three or four questions with a yes or a no at the end of them.

Not certain a lie detector test answers your question? Ask first — the consultation is free, and if the answer is no we will say so.

Cases From Our Manchester Practice

Deliveries that arrived short

A wholesaler on the edge of the city was losing roughly one case in forty from incoming pallets. The supplier insisted the counts were right at their end, the two drivers insisted they were right at theirs, and the warehouse manager was caught between them with a spreadsheet that proved nothing. All three agreed to sit examinations, having been told plainly that a refusal would not be held against anybody. What emerged was not theft at all but a loading practice at the depot that nobody had thought worth mentioning. The relationship survived and the counts came right.

A shared house in Fallowfield

Five students, one of whom had lost a laptop and a fortnight's rent money from a bedroom drawer. The house had already split into two camps and there were seven months left on the tenancy. Four of them proposed examinations and the fifth agreed on the same terms. The session pointed away from everyone in the house entirely, towards a visitor who had stayed the weekend, and the five of them saw the year out under the same roof.

A wedding fund that came up short

Money set aside by an extended family over two years was several thousand pounds lighter than the running total two relatives had been keeping. Both had access to the account and each was privately certain about the other. A wedding was four months away and the families had stopped speaking. They were examined on the same day on questions they had agreed together beforehand. The result cleared one of them and led the other to explain a series of withdrawals they had made and intended to replace. The wedding went ahead.

A candidate and a reference that did not hold

A recruiting manager at a small firm had a strong applicant for a role handling cash, and one thing that did not sit right in the account of why the previous job ended. Rather than reject someone on a feeling, the company offered a voluntary examination and made clear the offer stood either way if the candidate declined. He accepted. The session supported his version, the earlier employer's story turned out to be the unreliable one, and he has now been in the job two years.

Confidentiality and Consent

What people bring here is often something they have never said out loud to anyone. Discretion in this work is a documented procedure with steps to it, not an assurance given at the door.

  • Nothing without consent — the form is signed before any equipment is attached, and the session can be ended part-way through a question with no explanation owed.
  • One person receives it — whoever commissioned the examination. Nobody else sees charts or reports without written permission.
  • Behind a closed door — at the agreed address, with no waiting room to be spotted in and nobody else in earshot.
  • What happens to the material — recordings and paperwork are kept in a protected system under data-protection rules; requests from employers or family members are declined.

Polygraph Testing for Manchester Businesses

An employer can offer an examination; an employer cannot insist on one. Taking part has to be voluntary, consent has to be informed and given in writing, and anything recorded is personal data with the usual duties attached. Within those limits, firms here use testing for three specific things: getting to the bottom of one identified incident such as a shortfall or a leak, voluntary screening for roles that involve cash, keys or customer records, and periodic checks that staff have agreed to ahead of time. The finding feeds a decision. It does not stand in for a fair process, and any examiner worth the fee will refuse to let it be used that way.

More than one person. From five respondents up we work to a case rate and build the schedule around your trading hours — in practice that usually means early mornings or a weekend day on your own premises. Message us and you will hear back the same day.

Where We Test Across Manchester

Our room is at Peter House, Oxford Street, Manchester M1 5AN, a couple of minutes from Oxford Road station and easy enough to reach from any direction. As often as not the examiner travels instead: the city centre and Ancoats, Didsbury, Chorlton, Fallowfield, Prestwich and Salford, and out through Trafford, Sale, Altrincham, Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Wigan and Ashton-under-Lyne, along with the Cheshire towns beyond — Warrington, Macclesfield, Wilmslow. For plenty of clients a session at their own address is the simpler arrangement by a long way.

Any quiet closed room of around 10 m² is enough: a room at home, a meeting room, a rented office, a hotel room. The session needs privacy and two uninterrupted hours, not a particular kind of building. For cases elsewhere in the country the same terms hold — see lie detector testing nationwide.

When we reply: messages on WhatsApp, Telegram and Viber are answered daily, 06:00–20:00 local time.

What the Report Can and Cannot Do

Testing privately and voluntarily is lawful, and you finish with a signed document from a certified examiner. The courts of England and Wales do not, however, treat lie detector findings as evidence in the ordinary sense, and no report of this kind will settle a case on its own. Used alongside other material — in a private dispute, a negotiation, a family matter or a decision taken inside a business — it does what our Manchester clients actually need it for. If proceedings look likely, speak to your solicitor about the format before booking and the examination will be shaped to fit.

Booking a Lie Detector Test in Manchester

  1. Message us — WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber or email; the buttons are at the top of this page and next to the form below.
  2. We go through it — free of charge, and where a lie detector test is the wrong tool for the question we tell you instead of taking the booking.
  3. Fixing a date — normally a few days ahead within the city; the examiner brings everything the session needs.
  4. The appointment — consent, interview, recording, preliminary finding. Allow between 1.5 and 2.5 hours.
  5. The report — signed and with you inside 3–5 business days, at no further cost.
How to Prepare

Nothing about this can be revised for, which most people find the hardest part to believe. Sleep as you usually do, leave alcohol and sedatives out of the previous day, eat your normal breakfast, and set off early enough that traffic on the M60 does not decide how your morning goes. Prescribed medication is not an obstacle — raise it in the interview and it is taken into account, as happens routinely.

Being nervous is entirely expected and alters nothing: every question will already have been agreed with you, and the method is designed to tell ordinary anxiety apart from a concealment response. What does register, and unhelpfully so, is any attempt to control your own breathing. If you want a sense of what tends to be asked, our guide to the questions used on a polygraph goes through it.

Questions About Lie Detector Tests in Manchester

How much does a lie detector test cost in Manchester?

The standard examination is £365: one person, one topic, 1.5–2.5 hours, signed report included in that figure. Online it comes to £150, and running the session outside the examiner's working languages adds £70. Where several people or several topics are involved the case is quoted on its own after the free consultation. No city premium applies and travel across the county is not charged for.

Should I be asking for a polygraph test or a lie detector test?

Either — both describe the same thing. The device is a polygraph, and “lie detector” is simply what it is called in ordinary use. A polygraph test in Manchester is the £365 standard examination set out above: the same interview, the same protocols, the same signed report.

Is there a lie detector test near me in Manchester?

In most cases the examiner travels rather than you. Sessions run at Peter House on Oxford Street, or at an address you name — Didsbury, Chorlton, Salford, Stockport, Trafford, Bolton, Oldham, Bury, Wigan and the Cheshire towns included. All that is required is a closed room of about 10 m², at home, in a rented office or in a hotel.

How long does the appointment take?

Between 1.5 and 2.5 hours from arriving to hearing the outcome. Most of that time goes on the pre-test interview, where each question is agreed with you word by word; the recording itself is shorter. The preliminary finding is given before you leave and the signed report follows within 3–5 business days.

How accurate is the result?

95–98%, so long as the examination runs to standardised CQT and CIT protocols on professional equipment, the questions were agreed in advance and the person is in a fit state to be tested. Accuracy suffers when a question is too broad to answer with a yes or a no — which is why the interview matters more than any other part of the process.

Can the result be used in a UK court?

Not as ordinary evidence. The courts of England and Wales do not treat lie detector findings in that way, and a report will not decide a case by itself. Set alongside other material it can support a position, and in private disputes and negotiations it regularly does. Where proceedings are a realistic prospect, settle the format with your solicitor before booking.

Can my employer make me take a test?

No. An employer may propose one, but taking part is voluntary and needs informed written consent, and a refusal is not in itself a finding. Where the consent does not look genuine we turn the work down, and we explain that to the company rather than to the employee.

Can a teenager be tested?

Anyone under 18 is tested only with written parental or guardian consent, with that adult present for the whole session, and only where the young person themselves agrees. If the interview suggests the real issue is a family conflict rather than a testable question, we say so and advise against going ahead.

Can the test be done online?

Yes, for £150, and it is the usual choice when the people concerned are in different countries. The interview and consent procedure do not change. Where an in-person session is workable we still recommend it: the examiner then sees the whole person rather than a video frame.

Ask before you book

Set out the situation in a message and we will tell you straight whether an examination will answer it. The consultation costs nothing and ties you to nothing.
